Nothing But Flowers

Spello’s biggest festival – the Infiorata – takes place this weekend. It marks the celebration of the Catholic feast of Corpus Christi which this year falls on June 22. The link below will take you to my post a year ago which described the preparations for the festival and had lots of photos of last year’s event.

I will write about this year’s Infiorata after the weekend. But now every window box, every alleyway and every corner is bright with flowers in preparation for the celebration.

Walk with me around the streets and enjoy some of the beautiful flowers, rainbow bright….

….shades of green….

….stylish window boxes….

….huge cacti flowers bursting into bloom, reaching for the sunlight….

….bowls of tiny blossoms, a mass of colours….

….and vibrant purple against a green palm….

Let’s hope the sun keeps shining as the beautiful carpets of flowers are laid in Spello’s streets, squares and alleyways. Prepare yourself to be amazed by these exquisite creations in my next post.

Me too! I see all of the preparations are underway – it is very exciting. Later on, we will walk through the streets and watch the Infiorati at work creating their fantastic pictures from petals, leaves, herbs and flowers. The overwhelming smell in Spello’s streets today is that of fennel. Fennel fronds are used as part of the pictures. Have fun!

Hi Pamela – how lovely to hear from you again. It was such fun to meet you and share a coffee and pasticini! We are staying in the same place – our apartment is in the bell tower of an old nunnery. We wish you could join us tonight for a prosecco on top of the bell tower. Do come back to Italy and do keep in touch. More adventures in Spello to come! X

Thank you Otto. It is a great thing to experience the Infiorata itself, but equally delightful to see the whole town come together to ensure there are flowers everywhere. We took all of these photos on a single walk around the streets.
